Our 2009 fundraiser to support CureSearch National Childhood Cancer Foundation was again, a huge success. Money raised at our event was turned in at the Milestones Walk for Childhood Cancer on June 6th in Omaha. Out of 57 participating teams, Molly's Miracle Makers was the top fundraising team collecting $13,847.00 CureSearch Foundation helps fund research by supporting the Children's Oncology Group, (a nation-wide group of doctors and medical professionals). Their goal and ours is to one day conquer childhood cancer. What better place to donate than to an organization that gives kids stricken with cancer, a chance to survive. Thanks so much to all who took part in our efforts. ne of our goals this year was to impress upon people the reason for our efforts. Out of this thought "Faces of Hope - Miracles and Memories" was born. The Faces of Hope included personal stories of about a dozen children who have faced or are facing cancer. The stories were brought to life on posters and hopefully most who attended were able to read and absorb what many of these children and their families have been through in battling cancer. Sunday, May 24th, was a beautiful day - partly cloudy and mid-seventies. Our event started at 5 PM with the meal. Roast hog, hot dogs, beans, chips, and desserts were served. Hoerle's cooking crew had butchered and prepared the pork prior to the event. Picnic tables (about 25) were borrowed from neighbors and tables and chairs were borrowed from the Chambers Fire Dept. Bleachers came from the Chambers School and Holt County Fair Association. Tables were again decorated to match our "Go Big Red" theme. New to this year's event were cotton candy and snocone sales along with the Molly Trolley rides on a home-made train for kids 8 and under. About 7 PM, the Red Rooters, a 7 piece Husker Alumni Pep Band began to play, and again were a huge hit with their lively and animated performance. |
